1. Move the app to Applications

Unzip the download and drag NotchRail into your Applications folder. Open it from Applications. macOS asks once to confirm opening an app downloaded from the internet.

2. Place the | divider

NotchRail adds two items to your menu bar: a thin | divider and an arrow ‹. Hold ⌘ and drag the divider so that the icons you want to hide are on its left. Keep the divider to the left of the arrow; NotchRail won’t hide anything in the wrong order.

3. Hide and expand

Click the arrow to collapse the icons left of the divider, and click it again to bring them back. This basic mode needs no permissions.

4. Turn on the scrolling row (optional)

Right-click the arrow and open Settings. Use the buttons there to allow Accessibility and Screen Recording in System Settings, then quit and reopen NotchRail. Expanding now shows the hidden icons in one scrollable row beside the notch. ⌘-drag inside the row to rearrange the real menu bar.

5. Test before buying

Try the apps you actually keep in your menu bar. Open their menus from the row, rearrange a few icons, and try your external display if you use one. If anything looks wrong, quit NotchRail — every hidden icon comes back.

Updating or removing

Quit NotchRail before replacing it in Applications. Permissions carry over to updates signed by the same developer. To remove it, quit the app and move it to the Trash.

The download’s size and SHA-256 checksum are shown next to the button. You can check them with shasum -a 256 NotchRail-0.7.1.zip in Terminal.
